On Saturday 25th July we welcomed the Rev Martin Belgrove as our minister when he was ordained and inducted at a service in the church. We share him with two other churches in the North East Kent Pastorate, Faversham United Church and Whitstable United Reformed Church. Martin received his training for the ministry at Westminster College, Cambridge. There was a large congregation to welcome him, made up of representatives of all three of his new churches as well as many from Melbourn, Cambridgeshire his previous church, and well wishers from the local community and wider church community in East Kent. We look forward to his ministry with us, working alongside Rev Peter Cornish.
We have submitted a planning application to Canterbury City Council to upgrade the front of the Church in Mortimer Street. The plan is to open up the entrance to the church giving a disabled access with disabled toilets and create a small patio area at pavement level. Enlarge the entrance lobby and create two meeting rooms above a first floor level. The plans are available to view in the church or on the City Council webite quoting 15/02754 where if you feel so inclined, you can comment on them.
The Organ has now been repaired by Brownes of Ash. The Bellows had given up after over 100 years of valient service. They have now been replaced with new ones and we look forward to Ben Chewter putting it through its paces at forthcoming organ concert, see the MiMS section for details.
